Larry K. Hovis Biography

After  high school,  Larry spent a year and a half in art school but decided to change his his major and transferred to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where he graduated from  the School of Pharmacy..  He has spent over 40 years in health care and much of that in hospital pharmacy management.  After painting periodically over the years, Larry returned to serious painting about 20 years ago.  His love for architecture and old buildings results in subjects for most of his paintings.  He tries to capture the spirit of the buildings and landscapes of Wilmington’s old commercial and historic district where he lives. Living in the historic district, he views these structures daily.  This helps him realize how buildings relate to one another and the importance of preserving and protecting this relationship. The painting of these structures is one way to inspire others to appreciate and understand the importance of this architectural heritage.

Larry paints primarily in oils. He describes his painting style as “ expressionistic realism”. He looks for color, shadow and movement to produce his somewhat whimsical paintings but hopes the viewer finds a more abstract meaning to his work.

For art purchased online and being shipped, the buyer has 14 days to return after an item is delivered for a refund. Buyer pays for shipping both ways. For art purchased in person under $2,000, the sale is final. If art purchased in person is $2,000 or over, buyer has 14 days to return after purchase for a full refund if it doesn’t fit their home decor. The product must be in the same condition it was purchased in or return policy is voided. You can request a return by contacting alex@capefearliving.com. Return will be processed and refund issued within 14 business days after receiving artwork.

Please allow up to 7 business days for your order to arrive after purchase. Shipping costs vary depending on size of artwork, package insurance and buyer address. Order tracking will be available after purchase. No international shipping available.

If you requested to see a product in person, please allow 2 business days after request for the artist to bring the product to theArtWorks (200 Willard St, Wilmington, NC 28401) for your viewing. You may see the product in person during their business hours (Wednesday-Saturday 11am-5pm, Sunday 12pm-5pm).
